Jeff Shi - Education Program Specialist, Center for Educational Innovation
Jeff Shi is an Education Program Specialist with the Center for Educational Innovation; in this role, he consults broadly with faculty across the university on course design, student feedback, and educational development. He is also involved in research in teaching and learning, with a specific interest in issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM education.
Jeff received his Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Michigan in 2018. His dissertation, "Diversity and diversification across the global radiation of extant bats," integrated large-scale genetic, biogeographic, and physical datasets of museum specimens, and heavily focused on high-performance computation, statistical methods development, and broad-scale data sharing. It also involved a significant education component, funded and supported by the National Science Foundation and the Detroit Zoological Society. He received a B.Sc. in Biology from Duke University, where he was also involved in developing chemistry education programs both in the community and at the undergraduate level.
