Melinda Kernik - Spatial Data Analyst & Curator, University Libraries
Melinda Kernik is Spatial Data Analyst and Curator for the John R. Borchert Map Library. She has a BA in History from the University of Minnesota - Morris, and is ABD in the Department of Geography, Environment, and Society. Prior to working for the library, she was a research assistant for the Terra Populus project at the Minnesota Population Center - writing code to predict where global populations live based on night-time lights, road networks, land cover, and coarse census data. Her graduate research looks at affordable housing policy and the complexities involved in mapping access to “opportunity.”
